I don’t like to predict restaurant openings because opening a new restaurant can take a long time and delays are common. We heard about Ray’s the Catch back in
September 2008, and when I searched for it, I found this
bizarre review on Washington Post. A review for a restaurant that never opened? Oh and it says that it was slated to open in May of 2010…not so much. With the expansion of Ray’s Hellburger, Ray’s the Glass and Ray’s at East River, I put my dreams about Michael Landrum’s take on seafood on the back burner because I figured it’s just not possible. He couldn’t open yet ANOTHER restaurant…that would be too good to be true.
According to Clarendon Culture, Ray’s the Catch appears to be under construction and they are hoping for a fall opening. I tried to independently confirm this news with the one and only Don Rockwell, who hadn’t heard of Michael’s plan to open Ray’s the Catch this fall and he spent 3 hours with him the other day! That is one good poker face Michael.
If you couldn’t tell, I am really excited about Ray’s the Catch, and I am eagerly anticipating the opening. After you read the timeline below, you will understand my skepticism. This timeline is in no way a criticism, it just documents the ongoing emotional roller coaster Ray’s the Catch has put my seafood cravings through.
September 2008 – Washingtonian – Ray’s the Net is set to open in the old Ray’s the Steaks space.
February 2009 – Name change to Ray’s the Catch and opening date set for February 24th, 2009
March 2009 – Michael Landrum confirms that he doesn’t know when Ray’s the Catch will open
April 2009 – Ray’s the Catch will be open in a few weeks
May 5, 2009 – President Obama and VP Biden go to Ray’s Hellburger
June 2009 – Plans for Ray’s the Catch are shelved due to the demand at Ray’s Hellburger
December 2009 – Ray’s the Catch is to open spring of 2010
February 2010 - Ray’s the Catch will open in May of 2010
April 2010 – Ray’s at East River opens
June 24, 2010 President Obama and Russian President Medvedev go to Ray’s Hellburger
August 2010 – Ray’s the Catch will open Fall 2010
So if you’re reading this Michael Landrum, is it true?
